Closing arguments in the trial were held Wednesday.
From a court document today, May 4, 2023:
At the hour of 10:02am the jury returned and, by their foreperson, brought in a verdict of GUILTY which was then read. “We, the jury, find the defendant, GUILTY of Counts 1-3: Possession of Child Pornography, as charged in the Information. Court polled and discharged the jury. Verdict received and filed.
The state requested remand, that is to place Schmitt in custody or on bail. Remand was denied.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 14, 2023, at 2:30 pm.
What this means as a practical matter is that he’s now in the neighborhood.

Who was the judge that denied the remand? Certainly didn’t consider the fact that he lives RIGHT ACROSS FROM AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
