The pandemic is done

It was supposed to take 15 days. But it took 1,120 days to slow the spread of COVID.

On Tuesday President Joe Biden signed a measure that immediately ended the COVID-19 national emergency more than three years after it was enacted.

HJ Res 7 passed through the Senate on March 29 by a 68-23 margin. The resolution passed the House 229-197 on Feb. 1.

Before the Senate vote on the resolution, Sen. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) encouraged his fellow legislators to “end this chapter and let Americans get back to their own lives.”

In a 60 Minutes interview last September Biden said, “the pandemic is over.”

“We still have a problem with COVID. We’re still doing a lot of work on it. But the pandemic is over,” Biden said. “If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing.”

Of course this news will fall on a lot of deaf ears. They’re still out there. The COVID hypochondriacs who double mask. Who wear masks outdoors. Who wears masks alone while driving. Here in my community and probably yours, too.

Just stop. Masks are not only ineffective, but you look really stupid.

The pandemic is done. Finis.  Joe said so.

And might I add if you’re still practicing such nonsense, no need to microwave the mail.

A 2020 study by scientists from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, found that the coronavirus can persist on some surfaces including paper products.  The study may have been responsible to the point of alarming people to zap their mail before opening.

But Dr. Sumon Chakrabarti, an infectious disease specialist at Trillium Health Partners, said most people are infected when the virus enters their respiratory tract — not through the skin.

“Theoretically, if someone freshly sneezes on the mail, you touch it and … immediately touch your nose or mouth, then it can infect you. But this is very unlikely,” he said.

His simple advice: opening the mail normally, then wash your hands.

Microwave?  That’s a fire hazard so what’s wrong with you?

Besides, who’d be dumb enough to shove their mail in the microwave?
