I’ve seen that on social media as a reason not to re-elect the mayor.

That’s odd. I’ve known this longtime pubic servant for more than 25 years now and I’ve gotten along with him quite well, thank you very much. When we disagree, and we do, we discuss politely and then immediately move on. There’s no hissy fit or shouting match. Certainly no name-calling.

In some form or fashion I’ve been involved in politics since the spring of 1978. And up until recently political adversaries have always shown respect for one another. Respect is supposed to be a two-way street. Unfortunately that’s no longer the climate today. Franklin is not an exception. I have a few examples of downright animosity against the mayor.

Let’s begin with this Mrs. Congeniality wannabe. Watch until the 52:07 mark when she has been told by Olson at a public meeting that her allotted time to speak has expired. Note her parting shot and facial expression.

Now we fast forward in the very same meeting and more from this ray of sunshine. Watch until 1:46:41.

Next is a gentleman who’s an old friend who I like and admire a lot. But this is cross the line stuff. Watch until 56:47.

And one more and it’s a beauty. I guess some people just go bonkers at this whole time limit rule. The segment runs until 23:23.

Not hard to figure out who the eloquent Dave Nickels is supporting in the mayoral race.

Steve Olson is a far more patient man than I could ever be.
