Case against Franklin’s Curtis Schmitt still unresolved

Curtis Schmitt of Franklin did not make my TOP TEN FRANKLIN STORIES OF 2022. That’s despite the following:

In March of 2022 Schmitt, at the time the chairman of the state’s veterans board, agreed to resign, two months after he was charged with three counts of possessing child pornography.

Curtis Schmitt Jr. sent Democratic Gov. Tony Evers a letter saying he was stepping down just days after the Associated Press reported Schmitt was refusing to leave the board.

The criminal complaint against Schmitt says investigators found two photos and a video of child pornography on a Dropbox account affiliated with Schmitt’s email account. Schmitt, who has pleaded not guilty, told police he was addicted to adult pornography and sometimes received and downloaded child pornography, according to the AP.

But essentially not much of substance in the case occurred last year. Just one delay after another.

It’s now 2023. A jury trial has been scheduled for May 1, 2023 at 08:30 am.

The wheels of justice normally move very slowly. Sometimes they don’t move at all.

Here’s more background and it’s quite disturbing.
