MUST-SEE VIDEO-Brave gun rights speech re: a new age hate crime

The National Rifle Association (NRA) – America’s leading gun lobbyist group – will meet in Houston  from May 27 through May 29 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

“Governor Abbott, if you have any decency, you will immediately withdraw from this weekend’s NRA convention and urge them to hold it anywhere but Texas.”
Beto O’Rourke

“These people are coming into our community. The city of Houston needs to kick them out. We have to be just as tough about these things as they are.”
Ashton P Woods, an activist and founder of Black Lives Matter Houston, is helping organize one of several protests planned  outside the convention

“The convention has been on the books for more than two years. It’s a contractual arrangement. We simply cannot cancel a conference or convention because we do not agree with the subject matter.”
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner

The Federalist reminds that on April 20, 1999, two high school seniors murdered 12 students and one teacher at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. The NRA was slated to hold its large convention in Denver just days later. Some politicians canceled their scheduled  appearances.

Famous actor and then-NRA president Charleton Heston opened the convention in Denver on May 1, 1999, saying it was “absurd” and “offensive” to suggest supporters of Second Amendment rights couldn’t gather.

The top-ranking Republican in the state at the time, Gov. Bill Owens, declined an invitation to speak. Secretary of State Vikki Buckley, a black Republican in her second term, then welcomed the attendees with a speech that wowed the crowd.

You can watch the speech here.

Buckley died of a heart attack two months later.
