WI GOP Convention delegates’ decision to not endorse candidates a bad move

On Saturday the WI Republican Party during its annual state convention decided for the first time not to endorse a candidate in the race for governor. Other contests also got a no endorsement vote.

Delegates that voted for no endorsement thought they were brilliant strategists. Rejecting endorsements would be a major kick in the face to the party “establishment” they feel has not done enough, or nothing at all to decertify Wisconsin’s 2020 presidential election votes. The shortsighted ploy will now hamstring Republican candidates until August 10th, the day after the primary. An endorsement provides party resources to a candidate throughout the rest of the primary and general election. An endorsement would have allowed the state Republican Party, which can accept unlimited donations, to use that funding to actively campaign. Now those resources will have to wait for nearly three months.

Meanwhile Tony Evers can reap and enjoy all the money his party wants to toss his way putting any Republican who wins the gubernatorial primary at a disadvantage.

Attempting to explain this to the ‘no endorsement’ crowd is futile. They’re generally good people and mean well, but they fail to grasp the harm that just occurred. Refusing to listen, some get rude. They can’t possibly in their minds be wrong.

No doubt they’re popping champagne corks, not realizing the folks in the governor’s mansion and every newspaper newsroom in the state are laughing at us. Democrats issued a written statement saying the endorsement vote was an example of “conservatives in chaos.” And they’re correct.

Earth to WI Republicans: Tony Evers is the enemy, not each other
