Despite threat, Franklin keeps schools open today

And that was the right call. Closing schools would only empower the culprits and escalate, not diffuse future threats.

Dear Franklin High School Families & Staff,

We are writing as a follow-up to the message about the national trend that is occurring of social media messages being shared that contain concerning information.  Late last night, our Speak Up Speak Out tip line received information that was concerning a post that was shared online by a Franklin High School student.  The Franklin Police Department responded to this and followed up with the family early this morning.  After a thorough investigation, it was determined to not be a credible threat, and more importantly, the message that was shared online was determined to not be related to an act of school violence.

We share this with you to help keep you informed and to reemphasize how seriously we take any messages that can be perceived to cause harm in our schools. As shared yesterday, we have already planned to have a police presence at Franklin High School today and there will be officers there today.

Our strong partnership with the Franklin Police Department and Franklin Fire Department is essential to our success in keeping our students safe. Utilizing our Speak Up Speak Out tip line, and information provided by the school administration, our police department follows up with students and families regarding any tips that could be related to serious harm.  If you or your child ever feels the need to report an incident that you are concerned about, you can click here to access the form, which is available on our website, or call this number:

1-800-697-8761.

Thank you to all of you for doing what you can to help look out for and report concerning information so that we can all be diligent in doing our part to keep our children, our staff, and our schools safe.

Thank you,

Michael Vuolo
Franklin High School Principal
