I’m curious about Franklin’s stunning victory over Appleton North

Fantastic victory by the Franklin Sabers Friday night over Appleton North that’s being described in religious terms.

A Hail Mary.

I’m beyond happy with the ‘rabbit out of the hat’ victory.

I do wonder, though about the winning score.

Sabers are trailing 31-28 with a few seconds left…

After the touchdown watch what happens. The video is not very good but you can see enough.

The entire Saber bench rushes down the sideline. But no official threw a penalty flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Understood, the touchdown would have still counted since the apparent infraction occurred after the play was over. But a 15-yard penalty could have been assessed on the ensuing kickoff, to my knowledge.
And then, well, who knows?

Honestly, I’m quite surprised the Sabers weren’t flagged.

From the Journal Sentinel:

Players of the week

Myles Burkett, Franklin

It was only Week 1, but the Sabers’ 35-31 win Friday over Appleton North on the road will go down as one of the best games of the season and Burkett’s play was a major reason. With his team down by 17 points to Appleton North in the fourth quarter, the  Wisconsin recruit threw for three touchdowns to lead Franklin to a 35-31 victory. The last came on a 35-yard play to sophomore Jacques Brooks with 4 seconds left. Burkett threw for 368 yards, the second-highest total of his career, on 34-of-47 passing with five touchdowns.

BTW, it doesn’t get any easier for Franklin. Next up, a home game against Fond du Lac. Fondy is ranked 2nd in the state, ahead of the Sabers.
