The update, sent today in response:
Thank you for your response to my e-mail in which you write:
Dr. Moe’s administrator contract was approved by a public vote of the Board of Education as part of the Board’s July 14, 2021 consent agenda. This vote occurred during the Board’s July 14, 2021 Board meeting, and it occurred as a public vote in open session.
Please note that I looked at the portion of the FPS website that posts school board related documents (BoardDocs). In the agenda for that July 14th school board meeting there is NO mention whatsoever of an item to approve an assistant superintendent. Anyone reading the agenda would have no idea the item was even on the agenda.
I watched the video of the school board meeting of July 14, 2021. The discussion on the consent agenda lasted all of one minute, and again, there was NO mention on the record that the board would be voting to approve an assistant superintendent. Anyone attending the meeting would have had no inkling as to what was transpiring.
For more than 40 years as a broadcast journalist, writer, state legislative aide, and interested observer, I have read countless agendas for meetings of all units of government. Never have I seen documents that are as void of details as those of the Franklin Public Schools district.
May I suggest that in order to be far more transparent in the future that you include, write, post publically specific explanations detailing any proposals or actions you are considering at any FPS public meetings.
For example look at this document from the Whitnall School Board, including Page 10 and their consent agenda for their July 26, 20201 school board meeting (https://www.whitnall.com/board_of_education/agenda_packet/2021-07-26%20Agenda%20Packet%20Update.pdf?fbclid=IwAR1pv7XyDwGM-GZREW2caGCScgogyzYSCOYXyqQDqPbWG2YKPOcgriBCGLk).
Your communications are sorely lacking in transparency. They need to be addressed and fixed so average citizens are clear on exactly what you are doing.
