Dog Gone It
By Mark Siegrist
March 31, 2021
I guess I need to brush up on my dog greeting etiquette.
All of this masking up and social distancing gets a guy out of practice.
Or maybe it was just the muzzle on my mouth.
Words tend to get a little garbled, and misunderstood.
Seeing the young man and his spotted pup approaching, struck an emotional chord.
A rush of childhood memories.
We raised a number of them.
Not 101 Dalmatians, but quite a few.
Without thinking I just blurted it out.
“I love Dalmatians.”
The flattered canine happily lunged in my direction.
Like a long-lost friend.
His owner, unamused, suddenly pulled on the leash with a slight growl of his own.
And off they went.
The pup and I never connected.
Maybe on a future neighborhood walk.
I’ve already taken my shots.
And still masking up.
Now just waiting for that “New Normal” to begin.
Dog gone it.
That’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by.
We’d really appreciate it if you forward this on to other dog lovers you know. Let them have some fun!
See ya, BARK, next Saturday!
