More good Christmas music (12/14/20): Beegie

Every day between now and Christmas I’m selecting tunes or carols you won’t hear on FM Radio but they are certainly deserving of airplay.

Beegie Adair (Bobbe Gorin) is a jazz pianist who has sold more than two million albums. Adair took piano lessons at the age of five and earned a B.S. in Music Education at Western State University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Following graduation she played in jazz bands, and spent three years teaching music to children before moving to Nashville, where she became a session musician, working at WSM-TV and on The Johnny Cash Show (1969-71). Lots of artists wanted her to back them up, including Chet Atkins, Dolly Parton, Lucille Ball, Steve Allen, Dinah Shore, Mama Cass Elliott and Peggy Lee.

Adair has appeared on more than 100 albums (34 of which are studio recordings with her trio).

This past Friday Adair celebrated her 83rd birthday. She and her trio continue to play in jazz clubs and festivals around the world.
