The Honorable Steve Olson, Aldermen and Alderwomen of the Franklin Common Council
9229 W. Loomis Road
Franklin, WI 53132

Dear Mayor Olson and Members of the Common Council:

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is currently in communication with Strauss Brands, Inc. regarding their proposed project in Franklin consisting of a significant investment in new job creation and investment in a new building, machinery & equipment.

Thank you for the opportunity to discuss the potential new investment by Strauss Brands and the positive economic impact their proposed investment will have for the State of Wisconsin. WEDC has supported Food and Beverage Industry employers statewide, but in no higher concentration than in Southeastern Wisconsin. Strauss Brand’s new investment in the City of Franklin is complimentary to the billions of dollars of investments made by both public and private entities in the I-94 corridor from Milwaukee to the state line. From WisDOT investments in the infrastructure along I-94 and the Elm Road interchange, to the billions of private investments made by companies like Amazon, ULINE and HARIBO.

The planned investment by Strauss Brands in-part is due to the strong global demand for processed meats in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This project is competitive with location(s) outside of Wisconsin and boasts positive economic multiplier impacts for those businesses and individuals that have lost their jobs and income and have been negatively impacted due to COVID-19.

Wisconsin leads the nation in manufacturing, has a business climate that encourages and rewards production and innovation, and has a skilled workforce that continues to meet and exceed industry demands. Strauss Brand’s planned investment incorporates the latest technologies. It’s investments in employees, both via family supporting wages and by employing a diverse workforce, will have a positive impact on our economy and on the communities of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Thank you for this opportunity to express our support for the positive economic impacts this project will have for the State of Wisconsin.

With best regards,

Melissa L. Hughes
Secretary and CEO
Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation
CC: Tracy Luber, Regional Economic Development Director
