EARLY VOTING: Tampa Bay area locations & times for 2020 Florida Primary Election

Today’s read is from Howard Husock, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. Here’s the obligatory tease:

Even as the presidential campaign continues, an estimated 6 million Americans in 27 states have already voted. Early voting is now a fact of electoral life. I will not be joining in the habit, however—and I urge you not to do so, either.

  1. So, the argument he makes for not early voting is that it’s a social experience in New England where candidates stand at the polls talking to voters?

Well, in WI, candidates don’t get to stay by the polls, so that argument has no weight. And that’s just what people want to do in November in Wisconsin, right?

The author is worried about what might happen if people vote before something outrageous is revealed about a candidate. Given Trump proudly talked about grabbing women by the genitals and paid off both a porn star and a Playboy Playmate Witt no repercussions, it seems that argument is out the window.

Considering that voting rarely exceeds 55-58% of eligible voters, shouldn’t we be doing everything possible to encourage the civic duty of voting?

Of course, the answer to that for conservatives is no. There is ongoing attempts to ramp down voting for one simple reason, as was stated by Trump. If everyone voted, Republicans would never be elected again, and that’s fairly accurate. You see, the conservative minority is just that – a minority. It hasn’t cracked 50% of the popular vote since Reagan, and remember that only 55% of eligible voters actually vote. So, the conservative voter represents about 27% of eligible voters. And studies show that the 45% or so who don’t vote, generally lean left – not radical liberals, of course, but people who generally would vote Democrat if they voted.

So, the GOP knows it doesn’t want to support making voting easy and convenient, because they would never win again.
