Friday Night Forgotten Oldie: “I am strong, I am invincible”

They called her The Queen of 70’s Pop.

Australian-American singer Helen Reddy has her own biopic, “I Am Woman,” out in theaters and on-demand today. Tilda Cobham-Hervey plays Reddy and Evan Peters is cast as Reddy’s manager and husband, Jeff Wald.

Reddy placed fifteen singles in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Six of those 15 songs made the Top 10 and three of those songs reached #1.

In 2002, Reddy ended her show business career to live in her Australian homeland. She got her degree in clinical hypnotherapy, and disposed of all her paraphernalia, even her Grammy Award, opting for a simple, frugal life.

Ten years later she emerged from retirement to perform at a club in San Diego and also for a high school benefit in the Panorama City section of Los Angeles. She decided to return to performing after getting a warm reception when she sang at her sister’s birthday party.

In 2006, she published the autobiography, “The Woman I Am.”

Reddy is 78.
