Today’s read is from Larry Strauss, a high school English teacher in South Los Angeles. Here’s a brief excerpt:

I suppose if we’d had time to talk to one another and coordinate, we could have avoided assaulting kids who were already shaken up by the instability of the larger world and the prospect of two weeks — or for all we know, two months — of parents fussing at them and younger siblings to baby-sit all day. But there was no planning time for us. Almost no one anywhere was ready for this.
