Has popular music gotten better or worse?

You tell me. The Grammy Awards will be presented tonight. We’ve done this with the Oscars but never with the Grammy Awards. Let’s look at the Grammy winners for Record of the Year starting with 1960 and work our way up to the present by checking every five years.

1960: “Mack the Knife” – Bobby Darin

1965: “The Girl from Ipanema”  – Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz

1970: “Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In” – The 5th Dimension

2000: “Smooth” – Santana featuring Rob Thomas

2005: “Here we Go Again” – Ray Charles and Norah Jones

2010: “Use Somebody” – Kings of Leon

2015: “Stay With Me” (Dark child version) – Sam Smith
