Wouldn’t this be refreshing?

A weekend winter storm descended on southeastern Wisconsin, causing numerous crashes on icy roads, power outages, and flight delays and cancellations Saturday.

But by late Saturday afternoon — although gusty winds continued and freezing drizzle had coated roads — the National Weather Service’s predictions on how much snow could be coming had dropped slightly.

Forecasters said Saturday afternoon that Milwaukee could see as low as 2 to 4 inches of snow by Sunday, down from 5 to 8 inches.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s website, 6:00 p.m. CT Jan. 11, 2020

I take issue with the newspaper’s description that predictions “had dropped slightly.I’d say going from 8-12 inches from one of their earlier reports  to 2-4 inches is rather significant math.

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if just one TV weatherperson tonight would go on the airwaves and say:

Look, we screwed up.

Despite all the latest state of the art technology at our disposal we still got it wrong. Severely wrong.

We panicked our entire viewing area because of our huge mistakes. For that we also hurt local businesses and forced unnecessary cancellations.

There is no excuse for what occurred. For that we apologize profusely and will work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Don’t hold your breath.

  1. I would like them to make a permanent announcement like:

“We will not longer state the amount of snow that we guess will be falling or the amount of rain because that is unpredictable … and always will be. With that in mind please do not depend on us for that information. Use your precepitaion measuring devices after the fact … like we do.
We will only make mention if we think it might snow or rain (don’t count on that either)… and that’s it.
