On this day in 1985 his wife Yoko Ono opened a three-acre garden in New York’s Central Park, right across the street from their apartment building where Lennon was shot. She funded the park, Strawberry Fields, with a $1 million donation. Trees, flora, and flowers from all over the world were planted. And a large, round mosaic was placed on the pedestrian walkway.
