Here are a few Elvis “unplugged” moments.
On July 5, 1954, (an unbelievable 65 years ago) Sam Phillips, the owner and operator of Sun Records in Memphis, recorded Elvis during an unrehearsed performance of “That’s All Right Mama.” Two days later it was being played on a local station, and Elvis was on his way to stardom.
Elvis’ second film was “Loving You” in 1957, based on his career experiences.
In “Loving You” Elvis’ love interest was Dolores Hart.
At the age of 24 in 1963, Hart gave up her promising Hollywood career to join a monastery.
She’s now 80 years old.
And she is still a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
OK, one more. From a very under-rated Elvis movie, 1962’s “Follow That Dream.” Our star sings to Anne Helm.
