QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“My critics are political people. Had nothing to do with President Trump. So these are people that are looking for political gain.”
President Trump on the recent mass shootings

“Let’s stipulate that Trump’s words on immigration often are crude and inflammatory…that said, nothing he’s ever said could possibly justify indiscriminately shooting people. Trump is not a terrorist, a supporter of terrorism or an enabler or terrorism. To suggest otherwise is a slander born of partisan hatred.”
Columnist Rich Lowry

“To me he comes off as fake.”
In Dayton, holding a sign that said “Not Welcome Here,” Lynnell Graham said she thinks Trump’s response to the shootings has been insincere

“It shows that he actually cares, if he talks to individual families. That person had the intent to hurt people, he already had it. No one’s words would have triggered that.”
In El Paso, where protests were expected, Raul Melendez, whose father-in-law, David Johnson, was killed in last Saturday’s shooting, said the most appropriate thing Trump could do was to meet with relatives of the victims. Melendez credits Johnson with helping his 9-year-old daughter survive the attack by pushing her under a counter. Melendez, an Army veteran and the son of Mexican immigrants, said he holds only the shooter responsible for the attack.

“It’s such a shame that two of our local politicians (I refuse to say their names as they don’t deserve it) are saying that our President is not welcome on Wednesday. I cannot believe how these monsters are using the tragic event to push their political agenda. I lost my brother and sister-in-law on Saturday. My family and I are living a horrible nightmare. The visit from our President will be more than comforting to my family. He will not be here for a political agenda. The two monsters from El Paso, who do not deserve to be mentioned by name nor even the nicknames I have for them, are just pure evil. My brothers body was still laying at Walmart on Saturday night when they decided to make this into a political issue and push their agenda by blaming our President for this. Rather than focusing on the situation and the individual who destroyed the lives of many, these evil people selfishly turned this into a political war. I’m equally as angered by those two as I am with the person who took my brother and his wife from me, typing this I think I feel more animosity towards those two evil politicians.”
Deborah (Viborah) Anchondo, a sister of Andre Anchondo, a victim murdered in the El Paso shooting

“Four percent of violence in this country is attributable to mental illness. That means 96% of violence is not. So if somehow we were miraculously able to cure mental illness, which we’re far from being able to do at this point, we would not be appreciably reducing violence.”
Ronald Honberg, a senior policy adviser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness

“I want to make sure we protect our constitutional rights and whatever comes up will actually help solve a problem. I have a lot of concerns about the due process component of [red flag laws] and I don’t want to punish law-abiding citizens.”
Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) voiced skepticism that Republicans would support expanded background checks during gun sales.

“What they’re doing with the kind of movies they’re putting out, it’s actually very dangerous for our country. What Hollywood is doing is a tremendous disservice to our country.”
President Trump

“It’s the little things and the language and messaging that matters. The president said that we will fly our flags at half-mast until Aug. 8. That’s 8/8. Now, I’m not going to imply that he did this deliberately, but I am using it as an example of the ignorance of the adversary that’s being demonstrated by the White House. The numbers 8, 8 are very significant in neo-Nazi and white supremacy movement. Why? Because the letter H is the eighth letter of the alphabet, and to them, the numbers 8, 8 together stand for ‘Heil Hitler.”
Frank Figliuzzi, a former FBI official turned talking head-conspiracy nut

“Don’t let Neo-Nazis on TV,to buff their image or couch racism in ‘reasonable’-seeming terms/appearance!Sounds obvious but it just happened a few wks ago. Supremacists are experts at manipulation, incl manipulating smart people. You will open a box you don’t know how to contain.”
Tweet by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

“We want to take a second to pass on a sincere message to official Washington: Please, for the sake of the nation, calm down. This is a time of frustration and change. But America is not on the brink of genocide, not even close. This is not a white supremacist country, plotting the slaughter of its own people. It’s a kind country, full of decent people of all races who, like all people everywhere, make bad decisions from time to time but mean well and generally try their best. Going forward, give them the benefit of the doubt, even when you disagree with them — maybe especially when you disagree with them. These are your fellow Americans. Cut them a break. They deserve it. Remember: The alternative is a disaster.”
Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel, co-founders of  The Daily Caller, one of America’s fastest growing online news outlets

“Weird how the liberal solution to every problem is always to make you less free. One of their tactics is exhaustion – to exhaust the weak among us and get them to say, ‘Gosh, if we just give in we can put this unpleasantness behind us.’ But you can’t put anything behind you with these people, because there is nothing to put behind you. It’s all a lie. You are not a racist. Your guns won’t hurt anyone but criminals and aspiring tyrants. And the leftists know it,  and if you give in on this one – handing over your AR-15 and hanging your head over prejudices you don’t possess – the libs and their newsprint lackeys will just club you with another set of grievances that you can only atone for through further submission. It will never end. They will always hate you. Always. Nothing you can do will change that. Nothing. So get used to it and invite them to pound sand.”
Columnist Kurt Schlichter

“We should challenge students in these schools and have advanced placement programs in these schools. We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright, just as talented, as white kids.”
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s latest cringeworthy gaffe

“Unfortunately in the 2016 election you had a political opponent (Trump) who was weaponizing the idea of the celebrity endorsement. He was going around saying: ‘I’m a man of the people. I’m for you. I care about you.’ I just knew I wasn’t going to help.”
Taylor Swift on why she didn’t get involved in the 2016 election. She said endorsing Hillary would have made her a liability. “Look, snakes of a feather flock together. Look, the two lying women. The two nasty women. Literally millions of people were telling me to disappear. So I disappeared. In many senses,” she said.

“Taylor Swift wants to be a democrat because she wants to be in movies….period. And it looks like she will suck the door knob off Hollyweird to get there. Oldest move in the book. Good luck girl.”
Trump supporter Kid Rock. His comments come after a Vogue cover story where Swift explained why she wasn’t politically active  during the last presidential election.
