Today’s highly interesting read (07/08/19): Humor the cure for what ails America

I’m not sure how This Just In… missed this a week ago, but July 1 was International Joke Day. No kidding.

Before we get to today’s read, here’s a clip from a 1962 episode of “The Dick Van Dyke Show” where Dick’s brother, Jerry Van Dyke appears. Dick is Rob, the variety TV show writer. Jerry is Stacey.

Here’s the story from one of the best comedy TV show series ever. Stacey wants to be a comedian. But he has a bit of a problem.  When Stacey is awake and tries to show Rob his act, he’s terrible.

But then the episode shifts to a party Rob and his wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) are throwing later that day. After Stacey falls asleep he bursts out of his room and offers to entertain.

Which leads to today’s read from one of my favorites, humor columnist Tom Purcell.

Humor the Cure for What Ails America
