30 seconds of celebrating America = a $3,000 fine?

You decide. Is Frank Markel of Greenfield right or wrong.

“We’re trying to stress patriotism when others are not,” Markel said. “There’s so much crap in the world, can’t we have that little day to be patriotic and be proud?”

The party got a visitor.

Greenfield police arrive at the Greenfield Fourth of July celebration that included the firing of four cannons. The firing was over in less than 30 seconds. Police gave Frank Markel a ticket for undue noise.

WISN-TV reported on the 2018 incident.

Some people love it. Others? Not so much. I live in Franklin so I know all about the whiners and complainers and NIMBYs and killjoys.

A staunch supporter of law enforcement, I’m not crazy about the common refrain, “Don’t the police have anything better to do?” But c’mon.

Markel plans to do it again this year.

Here’s the latest.

  1. A part of the ROARING ROCK, set upon the toxic dump near S.76 St. and the freeway (7900 Crystal Ridge Rd, Franklin, WI 53132), produces consistent abusive noise for the residents in Greenfield on the East side of 76th Street but all of sudden the Zounderkites of Greenfield City Hall jump on someone who is also “entertaining” people! Get your act together, Greenfield.
    I wish Mr. Markel lived on our block!

      • I believe that I was “on topic”.
        The article addressed:
        * Fines for excessive noise.
        * Greenfield involved with the issue.
        * The concept of entertainment.
        I was only addressing the inequity of small-town law when it comes to situations like the canons. I held this up as an example of discrimination in view of the “untouchable” ROARING ROCK’S noise abuses.
        You can certainly play the authoritarian. It sounds like a “gagging” when you don’t like to hear other things that play into what you write.

      • You’ve been totally inaccurate in your outrageous accusations about the Rock. The police have been out there numerous times to do examinations and found the noise ordinances have not been violated.

        The ballpark is here and here to stay. Get over it. Move on.

        And if Markel lived anywhere in Franklin you can bet the NIMBYs would be out in full force.
