The Barking Lot – America’s Finest Dog Blog (06/08/19)

The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me.  It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY:  Partly cloudy in the morning, more clouds in the afternoon.  No chance of rain. A high of 74. “A”

SUNDAY:  Cloudy with a 50% chance of showers. High of 65.  “C-”

Now, here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.

After 20 years together, Kevin & I are certainly in tune to one another’s moods – good & not-so-good.  One look, a few words to the other’s ear, we know… We know when there is good news to share, and when we need to run for cover.  We know when one of us is trying to keep something inside and when we’re bursting to offer an amazing bit of information.

Once Kyla joined our mix Kevin and I instantly became aware of her states of mind as well.  Since she’s only 10 she’s not at the point where she tries to hide her feelings. Indeed, she is the type to wear it all on her sleeve:  from excitement to disappointment she counts on Mommy & Daddy to echo her emotions. And we do.

Now let’s think about if we had a dog.  Uh, I mean let’s think about WHEN WE GET A DOG.  What will our pooch contribute to this familial empathy?  Wait… WHAT??? What are you talking about?  Is it too far of a stretch to think that our dog will also be synchronized to our ups & downs?  I’ve always felt that dogs are incredibly intuitive. After all, isn’t that a reason that therapy & support dogs are as successful as they are?

Lina Roth, a professor at Linkoping University in Sweden certainly thinks so.  Her recent study will most likely lead to other similar ones showing us even more that dogs can mirror the stress from their owners.  Read more about her research here.

You can bring your four-legged friend to Miller Park to cheer on the Brewers against the Braves on Tuesday, July 16. This special ticket package also features a Brewers rope-style dog toy. As an added bonus, a portion of all special ticket packages sold will benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society and Animal Rescue Foundation.

We close as we always do with our closing video.

Now in theaters…

That leads us to a Barking Lot rerun from the fall of 2016.

The animated movie “The Secret Life of Pets”  explored what our animals are up to after we leave the house each day. Pets have a secret life, all right. But for dogs, it’s mostly about how they experience the world: through their noses. Did you know they can actually tell time through their sense of smell? Martha Teichner of CBS News reports.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by.

We’d really appreciate it if you forward this on to other dog lovers you know. Let them have some fun!

See ya, BARK, next Saturday!
