Milwaukee’s skyline is a bit emptier these days

Many years ago the pastor at the time at my St. Anthony’s parish, Father Larry Dulek described the south side of Milwaukee skyline as a “City of Steeples.” His description was spot on.

I did a double take this week. Make that a triple take.

All my life the domes on top of St. Stanislaus have been a constant. They’ve always been there (the twin spires have actually towered over Mitchell Street since 1872).

Not anymore.

The domes have been plucked like the caps off ketchup bottles. How did I miss this?

It’s all part of major renovations going on at that beautiful church. The tarnished gold leaf will be replaced with copper.

Here’s more from FOX 6.
