Culinary no-no #601

THERE ARE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF  FOOD BLOGS, BUT ONLY ONE CULINARY NO-NO!

This gentleman wrote a highly publicized food article this past week.

Lucas

In doing so he shook up America.

That’s Lucas Kwan Peterson, a relatively new food critic for the LA Times. In his article he stated, “I am pleased as punch to announce the authoritative, totally not subjective, incontrovertibly definitive and 100% correct rankings” for a particular fast food item.

This was some undertaking.

Peterson judges chains that had a few hundred locations or more, where no one waited on tables, and speed was of the essence. Fries were rated on taste and texture.

The critic told NPR “I split it up over three days so as not to have too much excess of sodium and fat intake on a given day. So I went to six or seven places a day. I went to a place at a time. I didn’t do a side-by-side comparison because inevitably some would get cold, which is probably the No. 1 fry killer. So I would sit there. I would eat them fresh, and I would take notes, and then I would (laughter) go and have the next fry. My cholesterol is not doing so well.”

“Not only is Five Guys No. 1, but it’s also so far ahead of everyone else it’s almost unfair. You get a generous heap of hot, properly salted, natural-cut spuds, with a good balance between crispy fries and the odd one that’s pleasingly soft. They’re potatoey (ph). They’re properly salted. They have a fantastic texture.”

McDonald’s fries, for approximately 4½ minutes, while they’re absolutely searing hot, are the greatest food on Earth.

Rounding out the Top 5:

Del Taco

Steak ‘n Shake

Arby’s

The worst five, starting with the absolute worst:

In-N-Out

Sonic

Rally’s

Jollibee

Wienerschnitzel

In-N-Out was the shocker. The newspaper totally dissed a California-based chain. Golden  State residents were not pleased.

Also, how does Wendy’s, as good as they are, beat out Chick-fil-A?

Ranking fries is like trying to choose the best kind of pizza. You can’t win.
