The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!

SUNDAY: Sunshine early in the day, cloudy later. High of 8. “F”
Now, here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer, with this week’s main blog.
I am SO excited for one of the biggest sporting events of the year next month! I just can’t get enough of the players and the pre-game festivities. The cheerleaders are fun to watch, and the play-by-play announcers do a great job. The half-time show is amazing, and I don’t even get mad at the refs.
Sure, the players might piddle on the field and bite one another. Sometimes they fall asleep in the middle of an exciting play but that’s OK. Yes that is how devoted of a fan I am. You see, my friends it’s coming close to the annual Puppy Bowl! It appears though that we now have a new tradition, since it’s the second year that the DOG Bowl will have its own special showing.
Before the traditional Puppy Bowl which airs on Sunday, February 3rd (the same day as some other widely publicized bowl game) the DOG Bowl will air Saturday, February 2nd and feature older and special needs dogs in need of forever homes. More information available here.
I remember my English springer spaniel grew deaf in her later years. Not only did it break our hearts to see her like that, it wasn’t easy communicating with her. She was an exceptionally smart dog, but it wasn’t a situation where we could teach her sign language like some deaf dogs have learned. We just did our best and muddled through. So when I hear of people intentionally adopting special needs dogs, I truly admire them.
In July 2017, I blogged about the concept of adopting a senior dog. Lots to consider but don’t pass up the opportunity to read the link to Laura Coffey’s perspective. After reading her essay I think you will enjoy watching the DOG Bowl even more.
The beauty of the Puppy Bowl and Dog Bowl is that every single player ends up being a winner. So while Kevin views the traditional bowl game from the office and yells & screams as usual, Kyla & I will be cooing & awing in the living room and frequently remarking once again that We. Need. A. Dog.
