Al McGuire once said every day on this side of the grass (holding his hand above ground) is a good one. Who can argue.
There’s no good time to hear of an acquaintance passing. But it’s especially hard to hear about it around the holidays. I’ve been jolted too many times as of late.
Recently two high school football referees I’ve known since the mid-1970’s died within days of one another.
This past weekend a co-worker of mine died after suffering cardiac arrest while deer hunting. He was only 57.
And this was extremely sad. I worked with Bruce at WUWM from 1978 to 1989. Bruce was witty, a technology/radio production wiz, always upbeat, and could do and did just about anything at the station. I heard one of his countless promos on the air the other day and still couldn’t believe he’s gone.
This Thanksgiving I will most assuredly count my blessings.
