Photos of the Week (06/24/18)

A pictorial week in review.

1) Immigrant children, many of whom have been separated from their parents under a new “zero tolerance” policy by the Trump administration, are being housed in tents next to the Mexican border in Tornillo, Texas. Photo: REUTERS/Mike Blake

2) A crying 2-year-old Honduran girl watches as her mother is searched at the border. The photo was captured by Pulitzer-winning photographer John Moore as he joined the Border Patrol for a ride-along. She was told to set the child down while she was searched.  “The little girl immediately started crying. … I took only a few photographs and was almost overcome with emotion myself. Then very quickly, they were in the van, and I stopped to take a few deep breaths.” Photo: John Moore, Getty Images. It was learned later the girl was NOT separated from family.

3) President Donald Trump holds up an executive order he signed to end family separations, during an event in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Bowing to pressure from anxious allies, both within his own Republican party and abroad, Trump abruptly reversed himself, halting the policy of separating children from their parents. Hundreds of druids, pagans, and revelers gathered at the ancient monument, which forms part of the wider prehistoric landscape of Wiltshire and includes nearby Stonehenge, to watch the sunset and the sunrise, marking the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice.
