Franklin Alderman Steve Taylor challenges former colleagues

Steve Taylor, if just for a few moments, was back at his old stomping grounds this morning: The Milwaukee County Courthouse.

At the beginning of today’s meeting of the full Milwaukee County Board former supervisors Taylor and Peggy West were given special presentations by the board.

Taylor talked about his approach as a county supervisor, that as a conservative he needed to work with everyone to get items accomplished.

“I was never going to pass some purity test. I just wanted to get a job done.”

Then he gave some advice.

“Just keep up the good work. Who cares about what happened to us” (He and Peggy West were targeted in expensive ad campaigns by County Executive Chris Abele and were defeated).

“Continue the fight. Don’t let what happened to us make you fearful that it will be you next.”

Other notes from today:

Taylor intimated he could be back. He’s clearly indicating he plans to run against Patti Logsdon.

And he said he’s getting along these days with Franklin Mayor Steve Olson.

C’mon Steve Taylor. That kind of turnaround can’t possibly happen. 🙂

  1. Kevin,
Here are a few points of interest. There were 16 cosponsors listed on former Sup. Peggy West and my citation. The two that were missing were Sylvia Ortiz-Velez and Patti Logsdon which wasn’t a surprise as you could tell by the scowls on their faces that they didn’t like us being at the courthouse and that we were so warmly received by our former colleagues and staff who came to say hi. Even Deanna Alexander signed on but we didn’t speak unlike Dan Sebring and I who have moved past the election.

I thought long and hard about what I was going to say and I promised that I would behave which I did. I wanted those who think I am defeated clearly see that I am not. President Richard Nixon once said “A man is not finished when he is defeated. He is finished when he quits.” Therefore I reminded everyone that I have been in the position of losing to an inferior candidate and if you recall it didn’t take long for the voters to show that elected official the door.

I failed once again to publicly thank my former colleagues for their support immediately following Marcie’s passing although I did in my farewell message. But as always, I spoke from my heart and with conviction. The late Charles Krauthammer once said the following…..”You are betraying your whole life if you don’t say what you think and you don’t say it honestly and bluntly.” Others can like it or not but this is how I have always been and will continue to be moving forward.

  2. Politics today is consumed by pettiness and is far too personal.

Does Patti Logsdon not realize how she comes off? I suspect she will get little done for herself or the district.

And knowing how she feels and who she associates with regarding Ballpark Commons I’m more than ok on my stance during the last election.
