What does Milwaukee County Supervisor Deanna Alexander have in common with Yogesh Chawla?

We’ll get to that in just a bit. But first…

On Twitter on April 15 of this year, after winning re-election, Alexander described herself as “one of few conservatives that survived the pre-blue-wave spring elections.”

On February 12th of this year the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel called Alexander “the most conservative County Board member.”

In 2016 Matt Kittle of the MacIver Institute referred to Alexander as “often a lone conservative voice on the liberal board.”

I think you get the message.

Last month Alexander voted along with every liberal member on the Milwaukee County Board to approve a meaningless advisory referendum on marijuana be placed on the ballot this November 6th for Milwaukee County voters. It will read:

“Do you favor adults 21 years of age and older to engage in the personal use of marijuana, while also regulating commercial marijuana-related activities, and imposing a tax on the sale of marijuana?”

Even if it passes 100% to 0% it means nothing. This requires state legislation and approval by the Governor.

Back to our question in the headline of this blog. Who is Yogesh Chawla?

Yogesh Chawla just got elected as a very liberal Dane County Supervisor.

Only a few months into office Chawla wants to ask voters in the fall whether marijuana should be legalized. They will be asked if his proposed resolution passes, and it has 19 co-sponsors:

“Should marijuana be legalized, taxed and regulated in the same manner as alcohol for adults 21 years of age or older?”

Note the key word.

Taxed.

So, congratulations Supervisor Alexander.

You claim to be a conservative. And yet you align yourself with all liberal members of the Milwaukee County Board on this issue, and now a highly progressive Dane County Supervisor.
