The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!
THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: UPDATED: Partly cloudy. High of 83. “B”
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. High of 93. “B”
Now, here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer, with this week’s main blog.
So here we are. June 2018 holds all the usual holidays and celebrations… Graduations, Flag Day, Father’s Day, and one of MY personal favorites, Take Your Dog To Work Day. Yes, it really is that time of year again! Bark bark! I mean, Whoo hoo! June 22nd is right around the corner!
Dog owners everywhere can rejoice in the opportunity to bring their fur baby to work and show him/her just what mom or dad does all day when they run out the door in the morning until they drag their tired body back home in the evening. Dog lovers-but-not-owners can thrill at the chance to pat, scratch, and spoil a four-legged friend even if they don’t have a pup themselves. And cat lovers? Well, we won’t go there.
Since 1999, TYDTWDay has been promoting “the great companions dogs make and encourage their adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies.” Really how can you argue with that mission? Hopefully your boss can’t. Hopefully he/she is also a dog owner or lover. If not perhaps this is your chance to show just how great it is to have a dog in your life. After all, it is just one day.
Twenty percent of companies are now pet-friendly. To those who really, REALLY love their dogs that might seem like a small number. It’s certainly better than nothing and YOU might be able to increase that percentage. If you would like to bring your canine to your cubicle perhaps this is the year to approach your boss about the idea. However, you won’t do anyone a favor if your doggie is a disaster.
You’d like to think common sense would be enough but even the most loving pet owners might need a refresher course. Simple courtesies and planning ahead can make or break your event. If you’re wondering just what you should do to show proper petiquette, ABC News can help you with 9 Take Your Dog to Work Day Tips.
Now really, with all this great wisdom, there is NO REASON why this event won’t work and won’t continue at your place of employment. Please leave a comment and tell me if you initiated (or continued!) an event at your job. Good luck!
