Now, here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer, with this week’s main blog.
Not long ago, I blogged some information about what veterinarians want you to know about your pet’s food.
I find the gazillion-dollar-a-year pet food industry almost unbelievable. I don’t fault pet owners for wanting the best nutrition for their entire family, dog included. I’m sure there are times the dogs eat better than their owners! As I mentioned in that previous blog, our dogs ate very average, off-the-shelf food. That was just what we did. Of course, we weren’t exactly an organic, gluten-free, grass-fed sort of family ourselves.
Food & diets are so trendy now… there’s a plethora of cookbooks for every whim; what is the perfect plate this week could possibly poison you next week. I don’t try to keep up and I don’t try to eat something because a celebrity says I should. I stick to the basics and make sure to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible. That’s the extent of my “regimen.”
I understand if your pup has a certain allergy or simply doesn’t like the taste of a particular food. In that respect they are just like humans. However, I refuse to succumb to fancy labels, famous-name endorsements or scare tactics. When we get a dog I’ll do my research on food but I’m not going to go overboard. Maybe I can start a counter-trend and just use my good senses.
Time now for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week.

This week the Orleans (Massachusetts) Fire-Rescue Department said in a Facebook post that they spotted Finn the dog chasing an ambulance.
“We appreciate his help directing traffic around a scene while our crew worked,” the post read.
They rewarded Finn by appointing him honorary fire dog and gave him a ride in the fire car.
