WISN’s Mark Belling is reporting that the city of Franklin is considering negotiating with the city of Milwaukee to get its water. Currently Franklin gets its water from the city of Oak Creek.
The Franklin Common Council will consider the matter at a special meeting today at 5:30.
Why is Franklin considering the change? Because the city isn’t happy with the rates being charged by Oak Creek that have been approved by the state Public Service Commission (PSC).
I would lean toward opposition to getting in bed with the city of Milwaukee. At the very least I would advise the city of Franklin to proceed cautiously.
If the problem is Oak Creek then try to re-negotiate with Oak Creek and/or the PSC rather than talking to or settling with Milwaukee whom I would never trust.
I suspect too many strings would be attached with the city of Milwaukee, too many stipulations that would not be attractive or beneficial to Franklin.
Even if Franklin decides to enter into a new pact with Milwaukee the Oak Creek Common Council and PSC would also have to sign off.
Finally, all the details are yet to come out. Even so, why do I fear Franklin, that could mess up a one-car funeral, could screw up big-time here.
