Vote to save taxpayer dollars next Tuesday

There is a statewide referendum question on the general election ballot next Tuesday that pertains to a proposed amendment to the state constitution.

“Shall sections 1 and 3 of article VI and sections 7 and 8 of article X of the constitution be amended, and section 17 of article XIV of the constitution be created, to eliminate the office of state treasurer from the constitution and to replace the state treasurer with the lieutenant governor as a member of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands?”

WI Attorney General Brad Schimel provides this explanation:

A “yes” vote on this question would eliminate the constitutional office of theTreasurer. It would replace the Treasurer with the Lieutenant Governor as a member of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands.

A “no” vote would retain the constitutional office of the Treasurer under Article

VI. The Treasurer would also continue to serve as a member of the Board of
Commissioners of Public Lands.

The current state treasurer Matt Adamczyk ran on a platform that the office should be eliminated, got elected, and argues the position needs to go.

“I can verify that the office no longer has any significant responsibilities. Currently, I serve only on one board, the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands, which requires just a few phone calls per month. That’s honestly it!”

Adamczyk wrote a guest blog for Right Wisconsin.

He’s right. The worthless office is a waste of taxpayer money.

The vote on this question Tuesday is YES.
