QUOTES OF THE WEEK

“Russia started their anti-US campaign in 2014, long before I announced that I would run for President. The results of the election were not impacted. The Trump campaign did nothing wrong – no collusion!”
President Trump tweeting in response to news that special counsel Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russian nationals for interfering in the U.S. election process. In a detailed 37-page report, the FBI explains how the defendants used false identities to stage political protests, rallies, and recruit Americans in their conspiracy.

“No child, no teacher should ever be in danger in an American school. No parent should ever have to fear for their sons and daughters when they kiss them goodbye in the morning.”
President Trump reacting to the school shooting in Florida

“He shot the girl next to me. I stepped on so many shell casings. There were bodies on the ground, and there was blood everywhere.”
Catarina Linden, a 16-year-old sophomore, said she was in an advanced math class Wednesday when the gunfire began

“As a parent, it scares me to death that this body doesn’t take seriously the safety of my children, and it seems like a lot of parents in South Florida are going to be asking that same question.”
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a leading advocate of tighter gun control

“We need to think less about taking sides and fighting each other politically.”
House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday that Congress should focus on whether existing laws — including those designed to prevent mentally ill people from getting guns — are working.

“There’s no question of whether he will be convicted of capital murder 17 times. When we let one of our children fall off grid, when they are screaming for help in every way, do we have the right to kill them when we could have stopped it?”
Howard Finkelstein, the chief public defender in Broward County, Florida

“Take everything you’ve heard and multiply it by 50. No president has ever had to deal with so much so fast: a special counsel and an investigation into Russia and then subpoenas immediately, the media insanity. Not to mention we were pushing out executive orders at record pace and trying to repeal and replace Obamacare right out of the gate.”
Reports of chaos and disorganization inside the White House through the first months of President Donald Trump’s administration are accurate, former chief of staff Reince Priebus said in a new book. “The Gatekeepers” will be released in paperback next month with a new chapter on the Trump administration.

“I think he brought the department into the 21st century. I think his intelligence was one of his greatest strengths, and I think for some people it became an issue, because his personality is so strong and forceful.”
Mayor Tom Barrett on retired Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn

“In the chief job, you have to be willing to alienate everybody at some point. I kept having to go to public meetings and be told stupid stuff to which I make faces that kind of invited criticism of me.”
Retired Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn

“At the end of the day, we became dots on a map and that drove a wedge with the community because instead of building relationships, the pressure was on traffic stops and field interviews.”
Alex Ayala, president of the Milwaukee chapter of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, referring to Flynn’s over-reliance on data

“When a leader’s ego becomes more important than the lives of those he took an oath to protect, that leader fails. When residents believe they have a higher chance of being injured or killed by a reckless vehicle than by a stray bullet, and the leader in control of changing that policy does nothing until forced to do so, that leader fails.”
Sheronda Grant, president of the League of Martin, an association that promotes the hiring and promotion of minority officers, on Flynn

“The climate is hot. The No. 1 job in America, the appointed person (Trump), is someone who doesn’t understand the people — and really don’t give a (expletive) about the people.”
NBA star LeBron James

“The country is not run by a great coach.”
NBA star Kevin Durant

“Must they run their mouths like that? Unfortunately, a lot of kids — and some adults — take these ignorant comments seriously. Oh, and LeBron and Kevin: You’re great players, but no one voted for you. Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”
Fox News host Laura Ingraham criticizing LeBron James and Kevin Durant

“At some point we’re going to be fatigued with everybody being a victim. You always have to play the hand you’re dealt. If you’re dealt a bad hand, you still have to play it.”
In a rare public statement, Justice Clarence Thomas decried the contemporary culture of victimhood Thursday, telling an audience at the Library of Congress that constant aggrievement would exhaust the country

Consider the fetching Robyn Lawley, a model without line, wrinkle or hair on her body, a signboard of perfect flesh, arrayed horizontally like Gulliver before the Lilliputians and bearing the message “nurturer,” “mother,” “human” (across her body). She says she wants to appeal to women with stretch marks, rolls and even cellulite. “We become so obsessed with our exterior message; we give no thoughts to what’s in our heads,” she says.

Paulina Porizkova, a model who wears TRUTH (all capitals again) on her naked body, observes that in the flesh business, “you almost get offended if you did not get harassed.” Such an unharassed woman might ask, “What is wrong with me?”

It’s silly, of course, but no sillier than the editor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue shilling for nudity as emancipating and empowering women in the #MeToo culture.

Liberation means many things to many women, but showing nude women in a sports magazine is hardly one of them. Better to watch the Olympics and look at those incredible women who aim for the gold.
