What happens when schools are closed because of weather

There’s a possibility of a snow day in parts of SE Wisconsin Friday as the entire area is under a winter storm warning starting tonight.   What does that mean?

Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Friday. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are expected. Higher totals will be near the Illinois border. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.  Severe winter weather conditions are expected. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

So if school is called off, what really happens?

Are kids trapped inside?

Forced to do homework?

Household chores?

Tidying up their room?

Sent outside to help shovel?

About this same time 11 years ago local schools were closed for a couple of days, not from heavy snow, but because it was brutally cold.

What happened?

Freedom Eden blogged about it.
