I keep the hope alive of owning a dog – soon – by finding as many scientifically beneficial reasons as possible. Kevin might be able to argue against emotion (PLEAZZZZE Daddy can we get a dog????!!!!) but how can he refute FACTS? He often tells me, “I’m a journalist… I deal in facts, not conjecture.” OK Mr. Facts Only. Let’s try another one on for size…
Study after study has found that pet ownership is good for us. It lowers our blood pressure, it increases our socialization, and it can even lengthen our life span. Additionally if we have any sort of diagnosed health condition, dogs have been proven to be incredibly helpful in managing whatever ails us.
A new study shows that not only do humans benefit from owning a dog, DOGS benefit from living in homes with children. AHEM. CHILDREN. As in, young people under the age of 18. As in, we have an eight year old daughter.
That’s correct! Not only would our entire family reap the rewards of owning a dog, said dog would ALSO benefit from living in a home like ours. Data to back up this claim? Yes, it exists.
