Heal Without Harm Coalition welcomes introduction of SB 423 and SB 424 in the Wisconsin Senate

Bills would promote ethical sources of fetal tissue while ending use of aborted fetal body parts

The Heal Without Harm (HWH) Coalition, comprised of member organizations Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Right to Life, Wisconsin Catholic Conference, and Wisconsin Family Action, welcomes the introduction of SB 423 and SB 424.

These two complementary bills, the Fetal Remains Respect Act (SB 423) and the Unborn Child Disposition and Anatomical Gift Act (SB 424), authored by Sen. Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls) and Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc), make up the Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative. This initiative seeks to demonstrate respect for unborn children by 1) outlawing the future exploitation of aborted children for fetal body parts (defined as tissue, organ or other part of an aborted unborn child); and 2) providing scientists with ethical sources of fetal tissue.

Wisconsin has an extraordinary opportunity to lead the nation by championing research that is ethical, innovative, and effective. We look forward to a thoughtful public debate on these bills at a public hearing and their enactment into law.

There is another competing bill, SB 422 authored by Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills), that regulates the trade in aborted fetal body parts rather than prohibiting it. The HWH Coalition strongly opposes SB 422.

TAKE ACTION!

On Wednesday, October 11th, State Senate Republicans will be gathering in caucus to discuss three bills related to fetal tissue – SB 423 and SB 424 (The Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative) and SB 422. SB 422 is NOT effective and does not end the trade of aborted baby body parts. SB 423 and SB 424, the Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative, is supported by all four main pro-life groups in the state of WI and promotes ethical research while protecting the unborn.

Please call your State Senator NOW (before Wednesday) and ask him/her to do the following:

  1. Please SUPPORT SB 423 and SB 424, the Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative, so WI can promote research that is ethical, innovative, & effective. Request that the public have the opportunity to discuss the HWH Initiative at a public hearing.
  2. Please OPPOSE SB 422, since it does not end the trade of aborted baby body parts and is not supported by a single pro-life group.

To find out who your state senator is, go HERE and type in your street address, city and zip code in the upper right hand corner. Click on the search icon to the right and the name and contact information of your state senator will appear, along with his/her picture.
