A letter printed in today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from a subscriber in Florida says a recent story on the paper’s website about the cost of Secret Service protection for President Trump is misleading. The writer said the story makes it sound as though the higher costs of protecting this president came about just because of this president and this president’s family.
I couldn’t find this letter online (the last time jsonline.com printed letters to the editor was in June) and I couldn’t find the jsonline.com article about the Secret Service budget suddenly out of whack.
Other liberal media outlets ran with the story first reported by USA TODAY. For example, National Public Radio:
The U.S. Secret Service is bumping up against statutory limits on overtime pay, as it struggles to provide protection for President Trump and his globe-trotting family.
Some media sites did include this element, although they buried it.
“This issue is not one that can be attributed to the current administration’s protection requirements but, rather, has been an ongoing issue for nearly a decade due to an overall increase in operational tempo,” Secret Service Director Randolph “Tex” Alles said in a statement.
