The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!
THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Sunny. High of 81. “A”
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. High of 70. “A”
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
Isn’t it funny? I honestly don’t know a dog owner who DOESN’T talk to his or her dog. I mean, why wouldn’t we? They are a part of our family, right? Maybe they don’t answer back in human language but clearly we understand them almost as well as they understand us.
Now with all due respect to lovers of other animals (cats, birds, horses, etc.) the most research has been done on how dogs’ brains work. Biased canine adorer that I am, I feel this makes perfect sense. Dogs are the coolest, most amazing, most talented, most fun to be around, best looking and most dependable pet. Ever.
It isn’t all that surprising that we are fascinated by how their doggy minds work. We love them like furry people but until they can actually SPEAK we do our very best to figure out at least what they are SAYING. Study after study, researchers are discovering and refining facts that lead to deeper understanding of man’s best friend.
Once again, a scientist who wants to continue such research finds incredibly interesting results. You can read and learn all about it here.
Time now for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week.
We’ve said it many times in the past. The news isn’t always good. The most widely reported dog story of the week came out of Minneapolis:

Opioid addicts turn to pet medications to get high.
Sales soar for vet’s T-shirt worn by coach Bill Belichick (yes, there’s a dog angle).
Lena Dunham: villain.
