The Barking Lot is a regular weekly feature of This Just In…Written by my lovely wife, Jennifer and me. It opens with the weekend dog walking forecast followed by the main blog from dog lover, Jennifer. Then it’s DOGS IN THE NEWS and our close. Enjoy!
THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon storms. High of 78. “A”
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. High of 83. “A”
Speaking of dog-walking…
Now, here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
Any dog owner can laugh at the above cartoon, but also shake their head in sympathy and agreement. Just the other day I asked our Franklin mayor Steve Olson how their dog Bella (an absolutely adorable Dachshund) does during the fireworks. His response? “Not real thrilled. Usually goes into my closet and hides under the shirts.” Sadly this is typical for dogs during the Independence Day holiday.
Last June this news story reported on a new prescription medicine that could solve your dog’s noise-aversion anxiety. Sileo was taking the canine world “by storm” for a species that can’t stand the very thought of them. Launched in time for the Independence Day celebrations across America, vets & their patients promoted the prescription in their own special ways.
Perhaps you haven’t heard of this medicine in time to help your dog THIS year. Or perhaps you’d like to wait until you hear more about it, including additional success stories. I completely understand. In that case, there are still plenty of easy-to-follow tips to help your dog during America’s Birthday Celebration. Check out the Dodo’s list of helpful hints.
If you have any anecdotes to share about how you keep your dog happy and calm during these stressful times, please feel free to share in the comments section.
Happy Independence Day to all the Barking Lot readers and their faithful four-legged friends!

Dad is ecstatic.
We close as we always do with our closing video, from Rabbit Hash, Kentucky.
And one more.
At a recent Vienna Chamber Orchestra concert in Ephesus, Turkey, a wandering dog came onstage during a performance of Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony No. 4.
A very slow-moving, sandy-colored Labrador finds himself onstage. The orchestra kept playing and the dog was a good boy.
That’s it for this week.
Thanks for stopping by.
Please forward this to other dog lovers you know. We’d appreciate it.
See ya, BARK, next Saturday morning!
