We forgot to include this in today’s Barking Lot. We’ve blogged about Ricochet before. Here’s the latest.
SURF DOG RICOCHET’S WAVES OF EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM
Last Sunday, during one of Ricochet’s Waves of Empowerment surf sessions, The San Diego Honda Dealers presented her, and owner, Judy Fridono’s non-profit, Puppy Prodigies with a brand new, fully loaded 2017 CR-V. When they heard that Ricochet is the only SURFice dog® on the planet who provides therapeutic assistance while creating unique surfing experiences and other activities that reduce social anxiety and empower kids with special needs, people with disabilities, wounded warriors and veterans with PTSD, they were eager to get involved.
San Diego Honda Dealers is made up of nine dealerships in San Diego County. “After years of helping others, Judy’s 2001 CR-V had over 240,000 miles on it. They do great work with kids, they do great work with the military, and the fact that Ricochet’s created this amazing ability to help people is really just awe inspiring,” said Jennifer Ball of San Diego Honda Dealers.
Ball went on to say “Ricochet’s ability to make instant, deep, empathetic connections with the people she meets is simply astounding. All nine dealers looked at Ricochet’s story and said yes, this is us, this is San Diego, this is a great fit, we’re in. So we were honored to step up and give them a new vehicle to take on every new adventure.”
Since San Diego Honda Dealers is always on the lookout for “Always Sunny Stories”, they also produced a TV commercial and social media video to showcase Ricochet’s Waves of Empowerment program. The program is a collaborative mentorship and comradeship initiative where veterans with PTSD are matched one-on-one with kids with special needs for a day of empowerment building activities. The program focuses on the well-being of veterans and civilians of all ages, abilities and backgrounds as they connect through the challenges they face.
“We are truly thankful for this generous gift of a much needed, dependable vehicle to serve the communities in southern California,” Fridono says. “When a dealership steps up to provide resources for the unique work Ricochet does, it demonstrates their core value of investing in causes that change and save lives. This is a gift that will not only allow Ricochet to continue her work, but it will further her mission. It’s a gift that will keep on giving!’
