THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.

TODAY Cloudy with periods of rain. 90% chance of rain.  High of 59.  “F”

SUNDAY:  Partly cloudy. High of 62.  “B”

Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.

Since the day we brought Kyla home from the hospital until she was old enough to truly communicate verbally, my one wish was that she came with a manual or interpretation guide.  As a new mother, my greatest fear was that I would misread her cues and completely not understand something incredibly important.  It turned out that I wasn’t too bad at reading our baby; when I DID have doubts I consulted the pros:  my mother-in-law or best friend.

When we finally get our dog I will most likely feel the same apprehension.  What does THIS type of bark mean?  What does THAT sort of tail wag indicate?  Once again I will wish I had some sort of doggy dictionary.  Although at least with a dog I can say I had them in the past; with Kyla she truly was a completely new experience.

It seems that I don’t have to worry that much after all.  Apparently as a woman I’m pretty intuitive with dogs AND kids.  I say this all the time, but I really do love these research findings for dog behavior.  They never cease to amaze me and the latest is no exception.

A man who suffered a bad fall while pruning a tree regained consciousness feeling the warm weight of his dog Tony on him. With his snout and paws firmly on his owner’s chest, the dog didn’t move from the man’s side — not even when the emergency crew arrived.

Jesús Heuche, who is recovering from a head injury, said Tony would not let the paramedics or police get close to him. “He thought they wanted to do something [bad] to me,” Heuche told reporters.
