From Pro-Life Wisconsin:
House defunds Planned Parenthood & repeals Obamacare
On Thursday, May 4, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 217 to 213 to defund Planned Parenthood and repeal Obamacare.
For one year, the American Health Care Act (AHCA) cuts $390 million (over 86%) of over $450 million in annual federal funding to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). This includes Medicaid funding, PPFA’s largest public revenue stream. The federal funding is redirected to community health centers (federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics) which outnumber Planned Parenthood clinics 20-1 nationally and 7-1 in Wisconsin. The funding resumes after one year only if PPFA discontinues its abortion services, which of course it won’t because abortion is the organization’s profit center.
As for Obamacare, the AHCA repeals the premium tax credits which subsidize abortion on demand. Although no health care policies in the Wisconsin exchange cover abortion, thanks to proactive legislation passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Governor Walker, many other states’ Obamacare exchanges do cover abortion. Wisconsinites’ federal tax dollars subsidize those other states’ abortion policies. Under the AHCA, that will end. No longer will any American’s tax dollars pay for healthcare policies that cover abortion.
Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks Speaker Paul Ryan and Wisconsin Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner, Sean Duffy, Glenn Grothman, and Mike Gallagher for voting in favor of the AHCA, a life affirming bill that rejects abortion as health care. We look forward to the U.S. Senate’s passage of the AHCA and President Trump’s promised signature.
Gifts for life
Did you know you can honor your mother with a donation to Pro-Life Wisconsin?
When you make a gift in your mother’s name for Mother’s Day, we’ll send a card telling her of the donation and her name will be in the following issue of our quarterly print newsletter, The Banner.
We accept gifts for life – in honor of your living friends and relatives and in memory of your deceased loved ones – all year long. When you’re making the donation, please make sure you include all the necessary details about the gift. If you use the online form, there is a section to include your loved one’s name and address.
DEFUND IT: Planned Parenthood ignores the fact that many women and teenage girls are coerced into having abortions by their parents, husbands, boyfriends, and others who have power over women. PLW: The Federalist gathered 10 reasons to defund Planned Parenthood, from post-abortive mothers.
IOWA: Planned Parenthood knows a huge number of women who abort experience a macabre form of buyer’s remorse, and that given 72 hours to consider what they’re about to do, many will not return for the procedure. And as noted in this action, that would result in lost time and revenue. PLW: Iowa’s new law – temporarily held up in court – would have women wait three days after abortion counseling to start the procedure.
OPINION: It would be refreshing if your newspaper would print at least some truth in its articles. PLW: This Pennsylvania writer trashes her local newspaper for not covering the 40 Days for Life campaign but highlighting a visit by top Planned Parenthood officials to the state.
NFP: I know there are people who believe that it’s wrong to ask any amount of abstinence from couples, just as there are people who believe that everyone past puberty has a physiological need for regular sexual release. I’m just not interested in discussing this claim. PLW: What if organizations spent as much time or money researching alternative NFP methods and techniques as they do on developing contraception? This is an interesting take on how married couples deal with prolonged abstinence.
SCOUTING: The Catholic Church in the Kansas City area has dropped its relationship with the Girls Scouts, saying the organization’s alleged ties with Planned Parenthood are not consistent with the values of the church. PLW: There’s been a long history of connection between the Girl Scouts and PP. If that isn’t enough of an issue, the organization has loosened its standards on membership, now allowing boys to join.
