THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Sunshine and clouds mixed. High of 57. “C”
SUNDAY: Sunny. High of 56. “C”
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
Two months ago, I blogged about Spring dangers that your dog could face. In the tips provided by the ASPCA in that blog, it mentions insect prevention. Of course that means ticks.
I’ve recently learned that a new-but-already dear friend is suffering from chronic effects of Lyme disease. It’s not pleasant as anyone with the same situation will attest to. Not only have I been lucky my entire life to not encounter a single one, we never had to deal with anything of the sort for our dogs.
Naïvely, I’ve always thought that because I don’t deep-woods camp I don’t have to worry. Well it seems that Franklin in particular is hotbed of tick activity. With our subdivision’s retention pond literally in our back yard, we have even more of a reason to be aware of these little blood-suckers.
I will be working with the above-mentioned friend to find essential oils that will keep our family safe, particularly during our summer outdoor season. She served on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Lyme Network, so I clearly trust her advice.
You might be wondering though, about Lyme disease prevention for Fido. It’s as serious as it is for you. Don’t take chances with your furry friend. Learn as much as possible to avoid possible difficulties later. This article is a great place to start.
