Pro-Life Wisconsin testifies on bill to end abortion coverage for state employees

On Wednesday, April 19, Pro-Life Wisconsin Legislative Director Matt Sande testified before the Assembly Health Committee in support of Assembly Bill 128, which would prohibit abortion coverage in Wisconsin’s public health insurance plans.

Assembly Bill 128 is authored by Representatives André Jacque (R-De Pere), Ron Tusler (R-Harrison), and Janel Brandtjen (R-Menomonee Falls), and Senator Dave Craig (R-Big Bend). If AB 128 becomes law, Wisconsin taxpayers would no longer pay for state employees’ abortions.

Please read Matt’s written testimony on AB 128 HERE, and please watch Matt’s public testimony on AB 128 on WisconsinEye HERE starting at 120 minutes.

Vigil for Life Madison, Pro-Life Wisconsin’s Dane County affiliate, was also present at the public hearing. Vigil for Life director Gwen Finnegan and member Ken Pientka offered public testimony.

Please watch Gwen’s testimony on WisconsinEye HERE starting at 118 minutes and Ken’s testimony on WisconsinEye HERE starting at 151 minutes.

We thank Representative Jacque and Senator Craig for their leadership and strong public testimony on AB 128, and we especially thank Assembly Health Committee Chairman Joe Sanfelippo for hearing this important bill so expeditiously.

The Health Committee is scheduled to vote on AB 128 this Wednesday April 26.

Missouri House advances bill banning use of aborted baby body parts

The Missouri House of Representatives gave initial approval last Wednesday to legislation that bans the use of aborted fetal body parts in research and increases accountability requirements for aborted fetal remains. Following Wednesday’s voice vote, House members must approve it a second time before the bill can move to the state Senate.

House Bill (HB) 194 prohibits a person from knowingly donating or making an anatomical gift of the fetal organs or tissue resulting from an abortion to any person or entity for medical, scientific, experimental, therapeutic, or any other use. The only exception to this prohibition would be to determine the cause of any anomaly, illness, death, or genetic condition of the fetus, the paternity of the fetus, or for law enforcement purposes. HB 194 would require pathological reports to be submitted to the state detailing how aborted babies’ bodies are disposed of.

Watch André defend Wisconsin’s new law redirecting federal Title X family planning dollars away from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

IOWA: The Iowa Senate gave final approval Thursday night to a $1.77 billion Health and Human Services budget bill that blocks state funding to Planned Parenthood and other clinics that provide abortions. PLW: The bill awaits the governor’s signature, but expect Planned Parenthood to fight the decision in court.

DEMOCRATS: The Democratic National Committee and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are under fire for supporting a mayoral candidate with a mixed record on abortion, highlighting divisions within the party even as the DNC seeks to mend fences with its high-profile unity tour. PLW: Do pro-life Democrat candidates exist? The national party platform includes support for abortion without restriction, but Sanders is campaigning for a candidate who’s favored abortion restrictions.
