Murray co-wrote “The Bell Curve” that claimed there are biological differences in intelligence between various racial groups.
When Murray attempted to speak he was shouted down by most of the students in attendance, estimated at more than 400. They chanted “Racist, sexist, anti-gay, Charles Murray go away!”
The angry, disrespectful display took place for close to 20 minutes. It was apparent Murray would not be able to deliver his speech.
Murray was then taken to another room where Allison Stanger, a Middlebury professor of international politics and economics, would interview him over a live stream. As the interview got underway the protesting students ran into the hallway, yelling and pulling fire alarms.
Despite the outbursts the interview was completed, and school officials, including Stanger took Murray to the back of the building.Masked protesters pushed and shoved Murray and Stanger who got into a car.
An angry mob banged on the vehicle, rocked it back and forth, and jumped on the hood. Protesters pounded on it, rocked it back and forth, and jumped onto the hood. Stanger had to be taken to a hospital where she was put into a neck brace.
Dennis Prager writes in his latest column:
In the last few weeks, there has been a spate of columns by writers on the left condemning the left-wing college students who riot, take over university buildings and shout down speakers with whom they differ.
These condemnations, coming about 50 years too late, should not be taken seriously.
Here’s the problem:
It is the left that transformed universities into the moral and intellectual wastelands most are now.
It is the left that created the moral monsters known as left-wing students who do not believe in free speech, let alone tolerance.
