In Los Angeles the NFL’s Green Bay Packers took on the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

Super Bowl I (Packers 35, Chiefs 10): Green Bay Packers wide receiver Max McGee makes a juggling touchdown catch during the first Super Bowl. Packers quarterback Bart Starr was named MVP.

QB Bart Starr was named the MVP but WR Max McGee was also a hero as the Packers won handily, 35-10 putting them on top of the pro football world.

That was 50 years ago. Oldies wise, do you know what topped the Billboard Top 100 chart that day?

Here are some clues.

1) It was the biggest selling record of 1967.

2) It sold 10 million copies worldwide.

3) It was written by Neil Diamond.

4) Diamond recorded it, but his version wasn’t the super smash.

5) Diamond wrote the song, intending it to be recorded by Eddy Arnold.

6) A cover version was used in the movie “Shrek.”

Enough clues.
