THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Partly cloudy. High of 32. “D”
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. High of 35. “C”
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
Even before Kyla was born, Kevin and I had a pretty firm rule that we wouldn’t talk “baby talk” to our child. Once she WAS born, we stuck to that rule. Certainly, we used soothing voices and gentle phrases. But we didn’t change actual words like “little” to “widdle” and that sort of thing. We wanted her speech to be clear when she started speaking on her own. As she got older, we also made it a point to talk to her like a little adult. She was always engaged in conversations even when she couldn’t fully contribute. Neither Kevin nor I regret our decision.
Now, what will happen when we get a puppy? We will follow those same rules? Well, unless we want our pooch to be valedictorian at her obedience class graduation I highly doubt we’ll be as stringent. Besides, who can resist puppy face? How can you NOT coo and swoon over that sweet darling? Why wouldn’t you “koosty kootsy koo” at a butterball of fur?
Well, if you think your PUPPY will respond to all that cutesy talk you’re probably right. But if suddenly you want to communicate with your senior citizen four-legged friend you might be out of luck. Huh? What am I talking about? Once again, I find a dog behavior study fascinating. I hope if you’re a dog owner, you do too! You never know how your communication with your canine might be improved.
