THE WEEKEND DOG-WALKING FORECAST: We grade the weather outlook for taking your pet outdoors.
TODAY: Sunny. A high of 51. “C”
SUNDAY: Sunny. A high of 58. “B”
Here’s my lovely wife, Jennifer with this week’s main blog.
While Veterans Day 2016 was officially yesterday I see no reason why I shouldn’t talk about our brave men & women who tirelessly fight for our freedom today. And, every day for that matter. If you’re a long-time reader of my blog and Kevin’s, you know that we are staunch supporters of our military. When possible & appropriate, I even take Kyla up to thank a veteran who is wearing a recognition cap or piece of clothing. I can’t imagine what our country would be like today without their service and sacrifices.
Throughout the years, dogs have played an important role in helping brave men and women as they defend our country. There is no question that dogs have been useful in many military situations for centuries. One of the most famous is, of course, Smoky. As time has gone on however, dogs have become more than military equipment and Smokey certainly paved the way for that transition.
Dogs have shifted from “gear” to “companion” even in war times. Fito is one example. And after the battles are done, veterans can’t imagine life without their four-legged companions. Needless to say, the change from active duty to civilian life is not an easy path. Thank goodness for friends like Jed.
There are so many organizations that recognize the contributions and importance of military dogs as well. You can discover several such examples by reading links at American Humane’s site.
Dogs will always, always be an incredibly important part of our lives. This Veteran’s Day weekend, take a moment to not just think of (and thank!) a veteran but please consider the contributions of their four-legged companions.
Time now for DOGS IN THE NEWS, canines that made headlines the past week.

HERE’S OUR DOG PHOTO OF THE WEEK:
We close as we always do with our closing video.
A video of a dog gleefully jumping on a trampoline appears to be providing Americans and Britons with a welcome distraction after a grueling U.S. presidential election.
The video—an advertisement for the British department store John Lewis—features “Buster the Boxer” jumping on a trampoline before his new owner can get a chance with the tagline “gifts that everyone will love.”
Viewers said the video gave them a smile after the U.S. presidential election results.
That’s it for this week.
Thanks for stopping by..
See ya, BARK, next week!
